2018: My Resolution

I am like every other person in the world. Come December 31st I make a ton of unrealistic and unattainable resolutions. It’s always the typical, “I will lose weight,” “I will go to a workout class every day”  or “I will read a chapter of a book every day.”

But whenever I don’t reach these goals, whether I miss a day at class or I eat a few too many cookies, I am so mean to myself.  And though yes, I need to be taking care of my body, I should be working out and I should be expanding my mind by reading the many, many books piled up on my bed side table, I should not be punishing myself. Chastising myself for my failures is just as, if not more, detrimental to my physical and mental health as giving up my workout classes at my favorite Studio Poise.

So this year I’ve made the ultimate resolution …

Resolution 2018

Old habits die-hard though and this one resolution does cover a lot of ground. First and foremost this is a reminder to be gentle and forgiving of myself, that includes saying “no” sometimes. But this is also a reminder to treat my body with reverence by eating good, whole foods, practicing meditation and working on my physical and mental health. But if I want an ice cream sundae, I am not going to get upset about it. After all, life is all about balance and that is essentially what I would like to regain in this new year.
