10 Things You Need to Bring on Vacation when you’re Pregnant

March 24, 2023

travel-mom-blogger

Planning a babymoon or traveling for work while pregnant? As we all know, packing for a trip can be a lot of work, even if you love all of the travel prep work. When you are pregnant, there is a whole slew of other items you need to make sure you have with you at all times. Here are the 10 things you need to bring with you on vacation when you’re pregnant:

1. Medications

You should always bring any medications your doctor has prescribed for you, including the basics like pain relievers. When you are pregnant, you need to also make sure you have your anti-nausea treatments, reflux medicine and any other prescriptions that your OB or midwife have prescribed, as well as your prenatal vitamin.

2. Comfortable Shoes

Comfortable shoes means shoes that have support built into them. A good pair of flats is ideal, but also bring a pair of sandals in the event that your feet swell. And make sure you bring more than one pair, just in case.

3. Compression Socks
[show_lookbook_widget id=”553303″]

If you are traveling by plane, compression socks can be a lifesaver while pregnant. Up in the air the circulation is poor in the lower part of your legs but if you wear these socks on board, they will not only help the circulation but also prevent varicose veins and potentially life-threatening clots. Choose a pair that feels snug but not restrictive. Don’t forget to walk around every couple of hours if you’re on a long flight!

4. Pillow, Sleep Mask & Ear Plugs
[show_lookbook_widget id=”553301″]

I always bring an inflatable neck pillow on the plane but if you’ve been having back pain during your pregnancy you might want to bring an inflatable lumbar support pillow as well. Add a silk sleep mask and some ear plugs to your plane kit to ensure you get in some much-deserved rest and relaxation as you fly.

5. Pregnancy Support Belt or Tape
[show_lookbook_widget id=”553304″]

Another way to help with back pain, belly bands or belly tape can provide support, whether you’re racing from gate to gate at the airport or trying to get comfortable in your seat.

6. Letter from the doctor

Most airlines require a letter from your OBGYN or midwife declaring you fit to travel once you reach 28 weeks. Some will require it even earlier so make sure you check with the airline prior to flying.

7. Doctor’s Information and Medical cards

This is probably another item that you should always keep with you, but especially when you are pregnant you should keep your doctor’s contact information in your wallet, along with your medical cards.

8. Travel Insurance

Make sure your travel insurance company knows you’re pregnant. Hopefully, you’re traveling early enough in your pregnancy that you aren’t in danger of delivering while on vacation, but that has happened before and it can get very expensive.

9. Shawl
[show_lookbook_widget id=”553306″]

I always get cold when I travel, even in summer. But I notice a huge difference when I make sure I have my neck covered. Dress in layers and don’t leave home without a shawl that you can also use as a blanket. It should be neutral and a comfortable fabric.

10. Snacks & Water Bottle
[show_lookbook_widget id=”553307″]

With my morning sickness, if I don’t eat a little something every 2 to 3 hours, I start to feel nauseous. So bring a stash of snacks that you can take through security. It’s also so important to stay hydrated while traveling, especially when pregnant, so a refillable water bottle is also a must. If you end up having to ask your flight attendant for water, specify that you want water from a bottle.

Make sure you grab my packing list below for everything else you should bring with you on your vacation.

What else do you bring on vacation when you’re expecting?

What it’s Like to Have a Miscarriage

Quiet on the set, darlings. 🥂💻 I missed The Trait Quiet on the set, darlings. 🥂💻

I missed The Traitors last night, and I am currently in a state of high-stakes catch-up.

Consider this my formal warning: Do not call, do not text, and for the love of all things velvet and dramatic, NO SPOILERS. If you ruin the banishment for me, I’m voting you off the island—or at least out of my group chat.

I’ve got my champagne, my cozy spot, and a burning need to know who’s being “banished” next. See you on the other side of the Highlands! 🏰✨

Sometimes the most beautiful parts of motherhood a Sometimes the most beautiful parts of motherhood are the ones we’re holding closest to our chests right now. 🥂✨

Watching Aurora walk down this red carpet, my heart was doing backflips—not just from the excitement, but from a mama’s private prayer that she’d feel as steady as she is brave.

We’re navigating some new chapters behind the scenes, and seeing the world meet her with such quiet, intuitive grace brought me to tears. Minnie didn’t just pose for a photo; she saw a little girl who needed a steadying hand and gave it without a second thought.

It’s a reminder that even when the path feels a little shaky, there is always someone ready to help you find your balance. Holding this memory—and my girls—extra tight tonight.

Share this with a friend who needs a little reminder that magic is everywhere. ✨

The Boots Understood the Assignment 🪩✨ In a city The Boots Understood the Assignment 🪩✨

In a city of salt-stained bricks and winter layers, sometimes a girl just needs a champagne coupe and a theater seat. 🥂

Last night, we swapped the “everyday” for the “extraordinary” at the Citizens Opera House. Kinky Boots is a rock’n’roll anthem to being exactly who you are, and honestly? My silver boots felt right at home. 🎸💎

Boston, go see this show - it’s at the Citizens Opera House through February 22. 🎭

It’s heart, soul, and a whole lot of high-heeled attitude.

Are you a “sensible boots” or “sparkle boots” kind of person? I think you know my preference! 💋

If you’re currently doom-scrolling through everyone else’s St. Barths stories while staring at a mountain of laundry and a gray February sky—breathe. I’ve got the ultimate stylish hack for my fellow “forgot-to-book-a-flight” mamas. 🥂

We’re trading the suburban puffer coats for 72 degrees of pure, neon bliss at the Orchid Adventure at Franklin Park Zoo. 🌺

It is a total mood shifter. Imagine thousands of stunning blooms, lush greenery, and gorillas lounging in the warmth—all wrapped in a gorgeous Victorian naturalist vibe (think: ornate curiosity cabinets, vintage shells, and 19th-century glam). It’s very Holly Golightly goes on safari, and I am here for it. 🐆✨

Whether you’re hunting for orchids or just hiding from the wind chill, it’s the perfect way to level up school vacation week without the airport stress. 🥂

The Details:
🗓️ Orchid Adventure runs through March 1st
📍 Franklin Park Zoo, Boston
🌡️ Tropical Forest Pavilion (It’s cozy, bring the layers!)
🎟️ Scavenger hunts & workshops included in admission

Go for the warmth, stay for the sparkle. ✨

Going for the Gold in “February Break Survival.” 🥇 Going for the Gold in “February Break Survival.” 🥇⛷️

I’ve got the outfits planned and the itinerary set, but as we head into the chaos of school vacation week, I’m realizing I might need an Olympic-level trainer. How do these athletes do it?!

If you’re looking for a place to pivot from “Mom Exhaustion” to “Alpine Chic,” head to the Frostival Lodge in Copley Square. Aurora and I stopped by last week to escape the chill, and it’s a total vibe. 🇮🇹❄️

Think: Italian Alps meets Boston grit. You can grab @eatalyboston treats, relax in a shoppable @Wayfair lounge, and watch the final Olympic events on the big screens. It’s the perfect “Gold Medal” moment for parents and kids alike.

📍 Where: Copley Square
When: Open daily from 11 AM - 9PM, February 6th - February 28th
🏆 Special Event: Closing Ceremony Watch Party on Feb 22nd!

TELL ME THIS: If Parenting was an Olympic sport, which event are you taking the Gold in this week?

🥇 The 100m Dash to the School Bus
🥈 Synchronized Nap-time
🥉 Heavy Lifting (aka the double stroller)
