3 Ways to Celebrate International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day and though we can’t go out and shout it from the rooftops, we can still commemorate the day. Here are 3 ways to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Challenge and Call Out Gender Bias and Inequality

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is #ChooseToChallenge. This means that you’re choosing to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. And one easy way to do that is to post to social media a picture of yourself with your hand raised high and include the hashtags #choosetochallenge and #IWD2021. Another way is to start a conversation in the workplace about women’s equality at your office.

The most obvious way to help a cause is to support it financially. And the group organizing this year’s International Women’s Day has already found a few charities for you to support. I’ve decided to donate to Womankind Worldwide which supports women’s rights organizations and movements to secure equal rights for women and girls so they can live without fear of violence, which, as the daughter of a domestic abuse survivor, is so important to me. 

Support Women-Owned Businesses

A simple Google seach will gather tons of results on women-owned businesses either online or in your area. I know I love hitting up The Merry Lion which is a local children and women’s clothing store owned by a mother/daughter duo. But if you don’t live north of Boston, you can check out Women Owned, a directory of over a hundred women owned businesses in all different categories. 

Personally, I’ll be spending my day reading feminist toddler books to Arielle like Think Big, Little One. It’s a favorite of hers and I am really enjoying the series.
