This picture pretty much sums up our July 4th Weekend. While I had already put aside some breezy sundresses for me and a few rompers for Arielle, we ended up wearing sweatshirts and jeans to escape the chilly, wet weather at my uncle’s gorgeous Mt. Monadnock home. But we still had fun. In fact, it was a very New Hampshire Fourth of July. Here are a few highlights:
Celebrating My Uncle’s Birthday
My Uncle turns 75 on July 9 so we made a cake to celebrate his birthday. I also put together his new TV system which was a bit more complicated than expected. In my family, I’m tech support.
Arielle’s First Trip to A Petting Zoo
My uncle was very excited about taking Arielle to the petting zoo near his house and though I was a little wary at first, she absolutely loved it and so did I! Arielle got to feed the sheep, goats, llamas and pigs, and even gave a bottle to a baby goat! It was adorable. I did learn a very important lesson: never wear a white sweatshirt and suede shoes to a petting zoo after a rainy day. I’m still paying for that.
Getting to Spend Some Time as a Family Away from Home
Pre-Pandemic, we were frequent travelers and had really looked forward to showing Arielle the ropes on the road. But we played it very safe during lockdown and have mostly stayed at home. So it was nice for us to be able to take a little trip without a ton of stress or expectations. We could just play things by ear and we were really grateful that my uncle opened up his beautiful home to allow us to do that.
The one thing I will say would have made our trip even better, other than warmer weather, is seeing my sister and brother-in-law. But they had the opportunity to spend time with his family in Western Massachusetts.
Hope you all had a great July Fourth Weekend! Now I’m looking forward to the rest of the summer.
