I love to start fun projects but I am embarrassed that many of them go unfinished. So when I took on this Ikea Duktig Kitchen makeover for Arielle, I kept on saying to myself, “you have to finish this.”
I was lucky to have Alex’s help with a lot of the larger tasks like putting together two separate cabinets to create an actual magnetized “fridge” and to drill holes to add stove knobs. He also attached the new “backsplash.” Long story short, with some team work it all came together and I am thrilled to share these photos captured by Jessie Wyman Photography to show you how it turned out.
First, we painted the base of the kitchen in Pink Elephant by Behr. I just love this peachy pink tone and it just happened to match our aprons! The top half was painted white. I used marble contact paper to cover the countertop and attached a trellis pattern contact paper to the back of the two shelves and the microwave to add a unique touch. The backsplash is made of mini subway tile stickers. Not going to lie, I kind of wish this was my kitchen. It’s just so feminine and chic.
I spray painted the handles for the oven, under the sink cabinet, and the microwave rose gold as well as the faucet. And then we added three stove “knobs” that were also painted rose gold. On the side of the base we attached a gold towel bar where we usually hang another dishcloth but it has since gone missing.
We installed two towel bars as the handles for both the “freezer” and the “fridge.” The fridge is really a work of art because Alex painted it with magnetic paint before the Pink Elephant hue. We stick fun magnets here and there and it really works! She thinks it’s the coolest thing and, to be honest, so do I.
Some of my favorite times are watching Arielle in her kitchen while Alex is cooking in ours, which is in the same room. The two of them are peas in a pod and it is adorable. I also love when she brings me one of her cups and we “cheers!” She cannot get any cuter.
As you can see, we had a lot of fun taking these photos. Things even got a bit messy at the end. But don’t worry, Arielle is a responsible little chef and cleaned it all up afterwards!
Below I have some of my favorite accessories for a perfect play kitchen. And you can find the Ikea Duktig Kitchen here.
This has to be one of my favorite projects of all times and I am so excited to watch her play with it for years to come!
