Arielle’s First Day of School

Guys, Arielle is now a preschooler. When did that happen? Didn’t I just bring her home from the hospital? To commemorate this special time, I decided to write a letter to her that has all my wishes for her educational future. No, I am not listing a full ride to Harvard or straight As. But rather what I hope she learns throughout her educational career.

Dear Arielle,

Today is your very first day of school. Congratulations you wonderful girl! 

I am so excited for what your future holds and I only hope that you enjoy school as much as I did (actually, make that as your Leyla Anna still does). To start you off on the right foot, here are my wishes for you as you take this big step in your life …

I hope that you make a few great friends that you’ll stay close to the rest of your life.

I hope that you find school to be challenging and exciting.

I hope that you find a subject that you truly excel at, while trying hard at everything you study. 

I hope that you keep your mind open when it comes to picking a career path.

I hope that you jump at the opportunities you’re offered. 

I hope you have teachers that will inspire and nurture your talent.

I hope you have a few teachers that will give you a run for your money – they always end up being the educators that bring out the best in you. 

I hope that instead of worrying about grades, you focus on doing your very best. 

I hope that you learn one new thing every day.

I hope that you’ll share your accomplishments, as well as your failures, with me so I can both celebrate and commiserate with you. 

I hope that you never have to deal with bullies, though I know you will, so let me just say that I hope you know to pity them instead of take their harsh words to heart.

I hope that you are kind to your fellow students.

I hope that you never allow yourself to become hardened or jaded and you stay the same genuine, kind, and generous little girl that I love. 

I hope that no matter where your education takes you, that you will always remember I am here for you.
