Today is National Read Across America Day and though I haven’t had the opportunity to read a book that has more than eight pages and no pictures in almost a year, we are reading to Arielle read every single day. Here are three ways we’re encouraging Arielle to enjoy reading.
Bedtime means Story Time
We read a book every single night before we sing our lullabies and if we even try to skip a part of our evening ritual she will not go to sleep.
We Have Books All Over the House
Seriously. We have children’s books in her room, our room, the living room, the kitchen. I even found one of her “bath books” in the bathroom the other day. She goes around the house finding them and then she’ll either find a seat and flip through it or she’ll hand it to us and we’ll read it her.
I Always have a Book in my Purse
Whenever we leave the house, I bring a small book with us. I don’t give it to her while we’re on the road, but if we’re parked for a bit or when we head into a store I give it to her to look at.
What are some of your favorite books? How are you encouraging your children to read? I’ve shared a few of Arielle’s favorite books below!
