Bonne Rentrée à Tous!
If you know me, or have been following along on my blog, you’ll know that I love everything French. When I was studying French in school I enjoyed learning not just the language, but also the culture. One of the interesting expressions I discovered was la Rentrée, which is the time of transition of Summer to Fall.
We are currently in la Rentrée where I live. The mornings and evenings are cooler, the kids are back to school, and I’ve even started seeing some different colored leaves on the trees.
For me this is always a bit of a sad time. While I love Halloween (arguably my favorite holiday), apple cider doughnuts, farm visits, and festivals, I never feel quite ready to say goodbye to summer. This year has been especially hard with Arielle starting school.
But I have to remind myself that we need to embrace all seasons of the year, and all of seasons of life. If we spend too much time fighting it, we’ll miss out on the fun it offers.
So on warm days you’ll still find me in my summer dresses, drinking iced tea and visiting some of my favorite coastal towns like Rockport and Newburyport, but maybe with a sweater in tow.
And then on cooler days I’ll be enjoying a pumpkin chai latte, cuddled up in a cozy sweater, heading to one of the local farms to pick up some delicious treats and local produce. Who knows? Maybe this year we’ll go apple picking!
This all may sound basic, but I’m realizing life is too short to worry about what other people think, or to not enjoy every moment you can. And in the end, I feel like that’s a very French way of living.
Bonne Rentrée à Tous!
