Tomorrow is Bastille Day and in honor of France’s Independence Day, I’m sharing just a few books set in Paris that you should take on your next trip to the beach or weekend away.
The Nightingale
By Kristin Hannah
Set in German-occupied France, 1939, The Nightingale follows two sisters dealing with love, heartbreak, and the struggle to survive during wartime. Fair warning, you will definitely cry while reading this book.
The Paris Wife
By Paula Mclain
To me, 1920s Paris sounds like a dream come true. That’s why I picked up The Paris Wife. And while you definitely get a peek into the glitz and the glamour of this time in the book, it is the somewhat tragic story of Hadley, Ernest Hemingway’s first wife, that keeps you reading.
My Life In France
By Julia Child
This is the quintessential fish out of water tale. Julia Child wrote this autobiography of what it was like to move to France without knowing anything about it, and not speaking a lick of the language, and finding herself and her love of cooking there. Bon appetit!
The Paris Hours
By Alex George
I just found this book in one of my local Little Free Libraries and I cannot wait to dig into it. This is another tale set in 1920s Paris and takes palace over the course of a single day in the life of four people, and one of them has a serious secret.
