The fall foliage is on its way out and the weather is getting chillier. But just because the apples have all been picked and pumpkin patches are starting to run out of pumpkins, it doesn’t mean there is nothing left to enjoy this fall season. Here are five fun fall activities for the whole family.
Take a Day Trip
My favorite thing to do any time of year is to head out of town and explore somewhere new. While we’re still being careful with Covid, we do love a good day trip. And we have done an overnight here and there (read my review on The Trapp Family Lodge) to get the most out of our time away. Make sure to check out one of my travel guides for some inspiration and then hit the road!
Visit a Museum
Yes, you can take your kids to a museum. I’m hoping to get Arielle into Boston soon to visit the Children’s Museum. But she has been to the Peabody Essex Museum a few times and if I treat it as an adventure she loves the experience and so do I!
Take a Hike
I’m going to be honest. I took my first real hike (and it was a short one) this summer. I didn’t even have the right shoes on. But it was more fun than I thought and now that Arielle is more and more mobile, I would love to plan a few for this fall. Not only is it a great way to experience nature, but it’s also free entertainment and a great way to work out.
Book an Airbnb for Some R&R
I love a good hotel, but Airbnbs can sometimes provide experiences that hotels just can’t. You can book lakeside cabins, mountaintop retreats, even tree houses! And while I usually gravitate towards cities, there is something very attractive about being in the middle of nowhere, away from crowds during this pandemic. If you just do a little digging, you’re sure to find a place that is both unique and comfortable. Just make sure that if you’re staying somewhere chilly that your Airbnb has heat (and preferably a fireplace)!
Get Baking
We’re in for some chilly days ahead and on the really raw ones I like to fire up the oven, peel some apples, and bake a pie. And everyone can get in on helping when you give them the right job. I have Arielle place the apple slices into the pie shell. It’s something easy for her to do and she gets to be a part of it which makes it fun for her and special for me.
