A few weeks ago I shared my tips on buying vintage handbags. One of my favorite things to do is find a great buy, but it can be especially exciting when I find something amazing during my travels. So now I’m sharing how I find the best vintage stores while I am on the road. Here are my tips on how to find the best vintage stores during your travels:
Do your Research
Before you start your trip, do some research online and in travel magazines to find out which cities have the best vintage stores. From there you can follow vintage stores on social media as many post updates about new items and sales. Following them is a great way to stay up-to-date on the latest vintage finds.
Ask Locals for Recommendations
Locals are always a great source of information about the best places to eat, shop, and go in their city. If you’re looking for the best vintage stores, ask the locals for recommendations.
Visit Local Flea Markets and Antique Stores
Consignment and vintage boutiques aren’t the only place to find great pieces. Flea markets and antique stores are often ripe with vintage clothes, furniture, and other items. If you do pick anything up, the vendors may be willing to give you further recommendations on other good vintage stores in the area.
Go Early
Now that you know where to go, go early! If you want to find the best deals on the best pieces, you’ll want to get there first before anyone else.
Be Patient & Be Prepared to Dig
Finding the best vintage pieces takes time and patience. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t spot something right away. Just keep looking and you’ll eventually find the perfect vintage items for your home or wardrobe. Be prepared to spend some time digging for the perfect item.
Be Prepared to Bargain, but Realize you may still be Spending Some Serious Money
Many vintage stores are willing to bargain, so don’t be afraid to ask for a lower price, especially If you’re buying multiple items. However, the best vintage clothes and accessories can be expensive, so you may still be spending some serious money even if you haggle.
Be Prepared to Walk Away
If you’re not happy with the prices or the selection, walk away. There are plenty of other great vintage stores out there.
What you should always remember is that shopping for vintage clothes and accessories is a fun and exciting experience. Enjoy the process of finding unique items and building your vintage wardrobe while you’re traveling. And when someone compliments you on your special piece, you’ll have an amazing story to tell them!
