You can tell a lot about a woman by the jewelry she wears on a daily basis, and even more with the lack of jewelry. For me, every bauble, whether new or antique, investment piece or budget-friendly, has sentimental meaning. My jewelry is not only an opportunity for me to decorate my body with a little sparkle, each one tells a story.
My Earrings
Until I was 16 I only had a single hole in each lobe. But after getting my second piercing I went a little crazy. I was lucky to discover the talents of celebrity piercer J. Colby Smith. Since then I have added a third and fourth hole in my right lobe as well as a conch piercing, a diamond in my tragus, a hoop in my daith, a small gold cluster in my forward helix, and two thin hoops in my left helix. For me, these small ornamentations helped me to get through a very difficult time in my life and for each milestone in my journey, I added a new piercing.
In my lobes I wear star and moon earrings from Catbird (that they’ve unfortunately stopped making so for a similar look, check out these heart earrings) that symbolize my obsession with the night sky, I have a freshwater pearl hanging from my left lobe to commemorate my love of the sea, and a diamond “A” hanging from my second piercing on my right ear for Arielle that she and Alex gave me for my second Mother’s Day.
My Bracelet
Arielle and Alex gave me this rose gold Mama bracelet for my first Valentine’s Day as a mom and I have not removed it since I put it on in February of 2020. It’s dainty, it’s beautiful, and it reminds me of one my favorite roles in life.
My Necklace
When Arielle was very little and breastfeeding I didn’t wear a necklace because she kept pulling on it. Now that I don’t get all those baby snuggles (sniff sniff) I wear a gold Our Lady of Guadalupe medal around my neck that my mom got for me on our trip to Mexico in 2000. This medal not only reminds me of that amazing trip, it also makes me feel safe.
My Rings
I love beautiful, delicate rings. Of course, I have my engagement ring and wedding band, my most treasured pieces. Also on my left hand, I have a thin woven rose gold band stacked with a hammered rose gold band with baguette diamond. These two rings were congratulatory gifts to myself for personal victories.
On my right pinky, I wear an Art Deco rose gold ring with two diamonds, what Arielle’s original birthstone would have been had she come on her June 1 due date, and a central emerald, her actual May birthstone. Alex gave me a black onyx, rose gold and black diamond ring from our trip to Paris.
My mom recently gave me a silver and garnet ring to commemorate a really hard time I had this past January (I’ll be sharing more about this later this month) and on my right index finger I have a gold and diamond sunburst ring (similar here) that I gave myself for my first year of motherhood.
What stories does your jewelry tell? I would love to hear so feel free to slide into my DMs.
