Review of Holiday Inn Boston – Cambridge Area: A Family-Friendly Oasis Near Boston

Somerville, Massachusetts

February 26, 2024

We had a delightful stay at the Holiday Inn Boston – Cambridge Area! Its location, convenient amenities, and family-friendly atmosphere made it a perfect base for exploring Boston and surrounding areas. Keep reading for just some of the highlights of our little staycation.

Family-Friendly Activities

The pool with its sports deck, large screen for in-pool movies, and rock climbing wall provided endless entertainment for our children. They also have school vacation week surprises like hot cocoa and crafts in the lobby. Arielle loved making a cloud from a paper plate, cotton balls and crepe paper (so creative) while I may have filled up my mug of hot cocoa a few times.

Comfort and Convenience

The comfortable rooms with refrigerators and spa-like bathrooms were a welcome retreat after a day of exploring. Having a crib already in the room for Aurora saved us time and hassle. Late checkout and a view of the Boston skyline were a bonus.

Great Location

Convenient access to the Orange and Green lines, proximity to Assembly Row, Union Square, and easy access to Boston made getting around and finding activities simple. While we are somewhat local to the area, we still were able to visit destinations we haven’t really had the chance to explore coming from home. Even getting the opportunity to visit Union Square Donuts felt like a luxury!

Dining Options

The in-house restaurant DRAFT offered convenient dining during the evening and also for breakfast where they had a great buffet for $15 per person. It’s just so nice when you don’t have leave your hotel too early to grab a bite, especially when you have little ones along for the ride.

Possibly the culinary highlight of the weekend was at The Independent in Union Square. They have nightly specials, like $1 oysters on Mondays, which is when Alex and I both tried our very first oyster and we ended up ordering more!

Nearby Attractions

The Lego Discovery Center Boston provided a fun outing for the whole family. By the way, you can actually book a special Lego Package through the Holiday Inn Boston – Cambridge Area which includes up to four tickets to the Discovery Center, two LEGO mini-build kits, breakfast, and free parking. The hotel even provides a shuttle to transport guests over to the Discovery Center making it a no-brainer.

I certainly enjoyed shopping at the rest of Assembly Row at some of my favorite places like Saks Off Fifth, Sephora, Bobbles & Lace, and J.Crew Factory. As I already mentioned, it’s also so close to Boston and Charlestown that within 20 minutes you can be at the Museum of Science, The USS Constitution Museum, Charles Street, Newbury Street, even check out the shops at the Prudential Center. If you’re catching a game or a concert at Fenway, you can step onto the Greenline and be at Kenmore Square in plenty of time for the first pitch.

The Holiday Inn Boston – Cambridge Area offers a great value for families seeking a comfortable and convenient base to explore Boston and surrounding areas. And the staff is incredibly kind and accommodating, making traveling with little ones as easy as possible!

So next time you’re booking your Boston visit, check out The Holiday Inn Boston – Cambridge Area!

*A huge thank you to The Holiday Inn Boston – Cambridge Area for welcoming me to the hotel for the purposes of sharing my stay. As always all opinions and photos are my own.

What it’s Like to Have a Miscarriage

Trade the heels for your chicest sneakers, because Trade the heels for your chicest sneakers, because Roger Williams Park Zoo @rwpzoo is the ultimate all-day itinerary. 🦒✨

We came for the magnificent elephants and giraffes, but the real plot twist? ‘A Bug’s World.’ I am the first to admit I am not a bug person, but watching the girls completely mesmerized by larger-than-life animatronic insects was unexpectedly fabulous.

Add in high-flying rescue dogs serving major personality and the beautiful chaos of petting the goats, and this is a full-day adventure you absolutely need to book.

Have you seen ‘A Bug’s World’ yet? Let me know below! 👇

Two princesses, infinite sprinkles, and twenty yea Two princesses, infinite sprinkles, and twenty years of us. ✨👑

Over the weekend, we threw our annual joint birthday bash for the girls, and naturally, it was a royal affair. We celebrated 7 and 3 the only way we know how—with tiaras, a little beautiful chaos, and our favorite people (both related and chosen family) at Putnam Pantry. There is something perfectly high-low glam about tulle dresses at an ice cream smorgasbord, and frankly, I am here for it. After everyone conquered the legendary sundae bar, we kept the sugar high rolling with cupcakes and opening presents. 🧁🍨

But today is actually a day of major milestones all around. First, it marks exactly 20 years since my very first date with Alex. Two decades, a lifetime of adventures, and two beautiful girls later... someone pour the champagne! 🥂

It’s also the three-year anniversary of finally giving our youngest her name. Fun fact: it took us a solid two days to officially name her. Behind closed doors, I was secretly whispering “”Isla”” to her, convinced that was the winner. But in true dramatic, big-sister fashion, it was Arielle who ultimately decreed her little sister would be named Aurora. Honestly? It’s the ultimate princess name, chosen by our very first princess, so it was always meant to be. 💕

Cheers to 7, 3, and 20! 🍾

How we celebrated three years of magic, sass, and How we celebrated three years of magic, sass, and keeping us entirely on our toes. ✨🎈

Aurora woke up yesterday to her favorite stuffies delivering three balloons for her big day. Naturally, this included a signature touch of toddler drama—she was deeply offended that someone dared to attach a balloon to her baby doll’s carriage. (We have to respect a girl with a strict creative vision.)

From there, we fully embraced the birthday anarchy:

The Menu: Cake for breakfast, because obviously. Later, we hit the ultimate high-low culinary pairing of a Happy Meal for lunch and homemade chicken nuggies for dinner. 🍟🥂

The Itinerary: A serious toy shopping spree, mini-golfing with her big sister, and round one of ice cream. ⛳️

The Big Reveal: Her very own ice cream cart from mama and daddy! She is completely obsessed. 🍦

A massive shoutout to Daddy for pulling a covert sunrise assembly shift to build the cart before the rest of us even opened an eye. Look, I can navigate a chaotic schedule and pull off high-low glam, but dawn construction is simply not my ministry. 💅🏻

A brilliantly exhausting, wildly fun day for a newly minted three-year-old. Loving this girl fiercely. 💖

Three years of Aurora Rose. 🌹 ✨

I’ve never been one to tap the brakes. Honestly, I live most days like that line from Hamilton: “Why do you write like you’re running out of time?”

When I had Arielle, I had just stepped away from TV, plotting my next move, and then the world shut down—suddenly, we had nothing but time. But the hustle always comes back, the calendar fills up, and life gets loud again.

And then came Aurora. My baby. The girl who actually made me stop.

I still don’t really have any “time,” but Aurora is the child who forces me to make the time. And as much as I might fight it or struggle to understand it in the chaotic moments, I’m finally realizing just how deeply good that is for me. She demands my presence, and it’s the best anchor I could ask for.

Make no mistake, though—she is an absolute force to be reckoned with. She has a personality that can completely match mine (and darling, we know that is a rare thing). This is the baby who literally tried to lift her head the very day she was born. The nurses gave us that polite, patronizing “yup, sure she is” nod... right up until they actually watched her do it.

My little fighter. My little munchkin with an attitude. I might not always love that your signature sass is directed straight at me, but I know exactly why you were given that fire. You are going to turn the world on its head someday—for the better. Just like you completely turned our lives upside down—for the better.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Aurora. We love you fiercely. 🥂🎀

Looking back at these photos from 2023, I realize Looking back at these photos from 2023, I realize now I had absolutely no idea how many rooms the heart actually holds. 🤍

I had already been Arielle’s mama for almost four years, but walking into this maternity shoot, my nerves were vibrating just beneath the surface. After navigating the heartbreak of two miscarriages the year before, I knew all too well that absolutely nothing is guaranteed. We were finally edging toward the finish line with our double rainbow baby. We knew she was a little girl, but we hadn’t quite landed on her name yet—and we certainly had no clue just how wildly she was about to throw us all for a loop.

Enter our beautiful Aurora Rose 🌹 👑

I really thought I knew exactly what it meant to be a mother, but this girl? She completely flipped the script. Aurora taught me an entirely new way to love and be loved. She proved that the heart doesn’t just rearrange the furniture; it builds entirely new wings. Love is fiercely, unapologetically infinite.

Tomorrow, she turns three. Three years of our beautiful, unexpected firecracker of a girl. Because after all the holding my breath and praying for her safe arrival, she is here, turning our world beautifully upside down—and honestly? I just want to raise a glass and celebrate every single, sparkling second of it. 🥂✨

“What do you want, honey? You need a donut? Okay. “What do you want, honey? You need a donut? Okay. We not have donuts.” 📞🍩

Happy National Donut Day! Let me set the scene: We had just survived a Times Square Krispy Kreme run, navigating the neon chaos to secure the goods. Aurora (a petite two years and two months old here) had been relentlessly negotiating for a bite. My answer? A firm no—we were strictly saving them for breakfast before packing up to leave the city the next morning.

So, like any self-respecting icon with a craving, she took matters into her own hands and hit the hotel landline. I still crack up every time I watch this.

While most toddlers today might look at a corded phone like an ancient artifact, this girl knows exactly what it’s for. When you spend a good chunk of your childhood in hotel rooms, a landline isn’t history—it’s a magical portal to room service, the concierge, and the occasional unauthorized call to another room. Truly, travel is the ultimate education. 🛎️✨

On this National Donut Day, I will proudly admit that I have completely ruined my daughters by teaching them the absolute superiority of a fresh Krispy Kreme. But there was a side effect I didn’t see coming: Now, whenever Aurora gets in trouble, she doesn’t just storm off to her bedroom. She fiercely informs me that she is catching a train straight back to NYC.

I know I should probably put my foot down... but mostly I just want to ask if I can come with her. 🗽🥂
