Welcome back to another edition of The Lust List. I took last week off from posting because, truthfully, I wasn’t really lusting after anything. I’ve been focused on educating myself on becoming an ally to those who have previously been voiceless. And though I think it’s important that we continue to educate ourselves and to contact our representatives and government leaders, I am hopeful that change is in the air. Which is why I am excited to celebrate Fourth of July next week.
We usually have a big party for the Fourth. But our town has cancelled our annual parade and fireworks so we’re going to lay low for the day. There is going to be a porch decorating contest so I’d love to use this star banner in our display.
Maybe Arielle will take a dip in her new pool while I lounge on this festive pillow. I know she’ll look adorable in her little romper. And I’ll use any excuse for a new outfit and this red dress is so versatile and these star earrings are very on-theme.
As I said, I’m continuing my education on systemic racism and I’ve added two more books to my reading list: The Common Cause: Creating Race and Nation in the American Revolution by Robert G. Parkinson and The Trials of Phillis Wheatley: America’s First Black Poet and Her Encounters with the Founding Fathers by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Both are set during the American Revolution and I don’t know about your history class, but when I was in school we never learned about how black people contributed to the cause. I have a feeling that both books will be eyeopening.
What are you lusting after this week?
