On our way up to our stay at the Trapp Family Lodge, we made a stop in Woodstock, Vermont before making the final leg of the journey to Stowe. This enchanting town is a little over two hours north of Boston and it is definitely worth a day trip. Full of adorable boutiques and New England charm, Woodstock is a historical gem that I wish we had had more time to explore. Here is my travel guide to Woodstock, VT.
When to Go
We were lucky to be there on a beautiful summer day, but I would love to go back when the foliage is in full force. I can also just imagine the beautiful common covered in sparkling snow and dragging Arielle in her little sled across it.
What to See
While we stuck to the downtown for our pit stop, there is so much to see in Woodstock. We loved popping in and out of the little shops as we stretched our legs. Right off the downtown (and I’m sure throughout the area), you’ll also find some beautiful, old homes that are a must-see if you want to experience the town. You can also visit one of Woodstock’s many operating farms or the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park.
Where to Shop
Even though I never wear flannel, you must at least peruse the Vermont Flannel Company. The classic label has only five stores but you can also find them online. I always love to hit a local bookstore and The Yankee Bookshop, Vermont’s oldest independent bookshop, fit the bill. If you’re looking for a beautiful sweater or new leather bag, Footprints is where you’ll want to head. Perhaps my favorite store was Woody’s Mercantile. This eclectic boutique has unique gifts and jewelry for everyone, even kiddos!
Where to Eat
If you visit on a Monday you will notice that most of the restaurants are closed in the area and I don’t think COVID has helped the situation. We were lucky to grab some delicious sandwiches and coffee at Mon Vert Cafe. Because it was pretty much the only place open in town, there was quite the wait for food and no tables open outside on the patio. But we found a spot down by the water which provided for a beautiful setting. Woodstock does have a great website full of resources, including a list of local restaurants for you to enjoy.
