Provincetown, with its vibrant energy and eclectic charm, has always held a special place in my heart. But traveling there with two little ones (a spirited 5-year-old and an adventurous 15-month-old) presented a new set of challenges. That’s why, for our recent Ptown getaway, we opted for a Del Mar rental home instead of our usual hotel stay. And let me tell you, it was a game-changer!
Del Mar Delight: Our Home Away from Home
We found our perfect haven in a Del Mar Vacation Rentals property, a charming house nestled in a quiet neighborhood just steps from the bustling downtown. This ideal location allowed us to easily access all the action while also providing a peaceful retreat for nap times and those moments when we needed a break from the crowds.
Space to Spread Out (& Stay Sane)
One of the biggest perks of a rental home? Space! Everyone had their own bedroom, which was crucial for our youngest, Aurora. She tends to see hotel rooms as an invitation to party all night long! Having her own space allowed her to settle down for naps and bedtime without the distractions of a shared room.
With two full bathrooms, our family of four, plus my mom (who joined us as our nanny extraordinaire), had ample space to get ready without the usual morning bathroom battles.
Kitchen Convenience & Culinary Adventures
While Provincetown boasts a fantastic food scene (those malasadas from Provincetown Portuguese Bakery still haunt my dreams!), having our own kitchen was a lifesaver. We enjoyed leisurely breakfasts, had a dedicated space for snacks and Aurora’s milk, and I even brewed up some delicious tea using leaves I picked up at The Captain’s Daughters.
And while the evenings were on the chilly side, it was wonderful to have a grill and patio set so we could enjoy time outside. I even took a few meetings out there and it was so peaceful and beautiful – a big upgrade from my usual desk space.
Relaxation & Reconnection
The comfortable living room provided a cozy space for family time, that also fit our playpen we had brought for Aurora. We even managed a date night! My mom watched the girls while Alex and I snuck out for a drink and a romantic stroll along the beach.
Storage Solutions & a Laundry Lifesaver
Having enough space to store our bulky stroller inside the house was a huge plus. We could easily load it up for our daily adventures and unload it without cluttering the living space.
And the washing machine? Let’s just say it was our unexpected hero! During our first 24 hours in Ptown, everyone except my mom succumbed to a mysterious stomach bug (we’re still not sure what we ate!). With Aurora spitting up on her playpen, Arielle battling an asthma-induced vomiting episode, and Alex and I feeling less than stellar, that washing machine became our best friend. Being able to keep everyone’s clothes and linens clean amidst the chaos was a lifesaver.
Final Verdict: Home Away from Home
Choosing a rental home for our Ptown getaway was the best decision. It provided the space, flexibility, and convenience we needed to navigate the challenges of traveling with young children while still enjoying all the charm and excitement of Provincetown. If you’re planning a trip to Ptown with your family, consider opting for a Del Mar rental home – your sanity will thank you!
