I’m turning my focus from education to the sartorial during Women’s History Month. I was really inspired to learn more about women in fashion when I visited the Peabody Essex Museum’s Made It: The Women Who Revolutionized Fashion exhibit in February.
There are so many women-owned fashion brands. Of course, there are the Haute Couture houses like Stella McCartney, Prada and Vera Wang. Then there are the cool girl brands like Dôen, AYR, La Ligne and Margaux.
Staud is a brand that I have long coveted and I currently have my eye on more than of their structured bags. Aday is fantastic for the working woman who likes to keep her wardrobe simple and crisp. And I have this pair of sandals in my cart over on Loeffler Randall. “It girl” jewelry line, Mejuri, is also women-owned and offers unique and staple pieces in almost every price range.
And then there are the small operations. The women that put their heart and soul into their work and are often operating as the designer, marketer, and everything in between. One of those women is Jaclyn Robichaud of Jack Attackk Clothing.
Jaclyn is making my goth girl dreams come true with her Boston-Based Jack Attackk Clothing. Jack Attackk Clothing is a brand that combines punk and goth elements with original artwork and couture techniques to create one of a kind, alternative fashion.
I asked Jaclyn why we should shop women-owned brands and businesses and she said, “It’s important to shop women-owned small businesses year-round because our dreams are not seasonal! We face countless challenges in the business world, and every purchase from a women-owned small business is incredibly impactful.”
Amen to that!
