3 Cute Cafes You Must Visit in Newport, RI

Newport, RI

January 19, 2022

kaffeology newport ri cafe

There are a few things that I love to do when I visit somewhere new that helps me feel at home. One of those rituals is to find a cute coffee shop to grab a pick-me-up and log on to the wifi to check in on any pressing business matters and, if we’re traveling internationally, get in touch with our families. There is just something about finding a cozy spot and curling up with a warm beverage that allows you to reset before heading back out for your next adventure. Am I right? Well when we were in Newport in December I got to check out quite a few local coffee shops between mansion-hopping.  Here are 3 cute cafes you must visit in Newport, RI.

Kaffeology

359 Thames St.

Kaffeology has so much personality it’s no wonder the owner once worked as a manager for Walt Disney World Restaurants. In 2017 she moved back to New England and it was on a trip to Newport she found her first location for Kaffeology. Now she has a shop on Thames Street and another location in Portsmouth, RI. With over-the-top latte offerings like a maple bourbon latte, coconut brulee, and the nightcap hot chocolate, this small shop puts Starbucks to shame. They also have an incredible selection of macarons and to die for pastries. Next time I want to try the chocolate hazelnut chai and one of their tartines. I love a good tartine!

Empire Tea & Coffee

112 William St

Right before we left town we had the opportunity to stop in at Empire Tea & Coffee and it was worth it. Empire actually has two locations in Newport and one in Bristol, RI. The flagship cafe opened in 2004 and is located on Bellevue Avenue, across the street from the Tennis Hall of Fame. They have adorable window seats that seem to defy gravity along with a great tea selection. I enjoyed the Nutcracker tea latte, one of their holiday seasonal offerings, and a superb bagel and lox. If you are feeling peckish, just be aware that the kitchen closes an hour before the cafe.

Coffee Grinder

33 Bannister’s Wharf

I wanted to include the Coffee Grinder so that anyone looking for cute cafes will know that this gem is now closed. If location is everything then Coffee Grinder had won the jackpot. Located on the very end of Bannister’s Wharf, overlooking historic Newport harbor, this charming espresso bar served coffee and pastries for 25 years. Unfortunately, the landlords chose not to renew the lease. I’m so glad that I got there once!

I know there are a lot more cute, Instagrammable cafes in Newport and I look forward to exploring them next time I visit so if you have any suggestions, please drop them below or DM me!

What it’s Like to Have a Miscarriage

Tomorrow, The Devil Wears Prada 2 drops—exactly 20 Tomorrow, The Devil Wears Prada 2 drops—exactly 20 years after the original. Which immediately brought me back to this photo.

Central Park. Strawberry Fields. 2006.

I had just wrapped my freshman year living in NYC. Despite what the camo dress and the grey Walmart hoodie might suggest (listen, college budgets and a fleeting grunge phase will do that to a girl), I was fiercely obsessed with fashion. I had also just started dating Alex—the guy who, 8 years later, would become my husband, and 13 years later, the father to my girls.

Back then, with a year of city living under my belt and having navigated childhood hardships that no kid should ever have to face, I genuinely thought I had seen it all. Looking at this picture now? I realize just how beautifully green I really was.

When I first watched the film, I was 100% Team Andy. (Though, let’s be honest, I was definitely vibrating on Emily’s frequency, wishing I could afford even a fraction of that wardrobe.)

But as I’ve gotten older, my perspective has shifted. I understand Miranda’s POV more and more.

Yes, she’s a caricature. The movie leans into extremes for the sake of entertainment. But at her core? Miranda expected a job to be done, and she expected it to be done well.

These days, I am absolutely doing a better job at giving myself grace and protecting my boundaries between work and family life—something that film definitely doesn’t advocate for. But I will argue that Miranda’s expectation of excellence is something we should all strive for.

I’m not accepting any job half-done when it comes to my work, my business, or my collaborations. I show up, and I expect the same energy in return.

And that’s what I learned from Miranda.

That, and it’s Cerulean .... ☕️🚕👠

(BTW - I have something really exciting to share that’s happening tonight to do with The Devil Wears Prada 2! Make sure to stay tuned to my stories later today! 🤫💃)

I am am hitting a big birthday this year, and hone I am am hitting a big birthday this year, and honestly? My skin looks and feels infinitely better today than it ever did in my twenties. 🥂✨

The secret isn’t a miracle filter or just “good genes”—it’s a very specific, high-low combination of trusting the absolute best experts, using top-tier products, and practicing a little everyday discipline.

I’m pulling back the curtain and partnering with my holy grail team at @rnesthetics_ma to share exactly what goes into the glow:

✨ The Ritual: This is where the real magic happens. I trust the absolute guru, Michelle Doran, MSN, APRN-BC, CANS, for my regular Botox treatments. She is an artist. And for that deep, glass-skin clean? Hydrafacials with Franki Gasparini. They keep my canvas flawless.

🧴 The Arsenal: A masterpiece requires the right tools. The brilliant minds at RN Esthetics set me up with a medical-grade lineup that actually does the heavy lifting while I sleep (and while I’m chasing two kids around the city). My SkinBetter Science trinity: the Detoxifying Scrub Mask (2-3x a week), the Alto Advanced Defense and Repair Serum (every morning), and the AlphaRet Overnight Cream (every other night). You can shop them here: https://www.shopltk.com/explore/fashionablykateandco/productsets/11f142a4884581018f350242ac110009

🧢 The Non-Negotiables: You don’t buy a Chanel bag and leave it in the rain. To protect the investment and preserve the incredible results from my treatments, I rely on the freebies: a chic baseball cap, oversized sunglasses to prevent squinting, SPF all day, everyday, and hydrating like it’s my part-time job.

We can’t stop time, darlings, but we can absolutely negotiate the terms.

Tell me below: what is the one skincare step you absolutely refuse to skip? 👇🖤

Grand Central Station, last summer. Just Arielle, Grand Central Station, last summer. Just Arielle, Aurora, and me, and Alex behind the camera, standing at the starting line of our NYC adventure. 🍎✨

To be perfectly honest, I had never really questioned if they’d be able to handle the city that made me who I am today. I know the sheer energy of New York can easily overwhelm some, and right before this photo was snapped, I felt a tiny, completely unnecessary twinge of nervousness.

I shouldn’t have. They took to the concrete jungle like absolute champs. Real city kids, through and through.

Watching them hold their own in that magnificent, bustling crowd reminded me of the most important lesson I am determined to teach my daughters: the absolute power of the “And.”

Society loves to make us choose. Be soft or be strong. Be a devoted mother or be fiercely ambitious. Wear the pearls or have the grit.

But the magic lives right in the middle. We don’t survive on sweetness alone—we survive on a specific brand of unapologetic grit, usually delivered with a sharp wit and flawless lipstick.

That is the heritage I’m passing down to my girls.

I want them to know they can love all things pink, sparkly, and traditionally feminine, and still have a spine made of absolute steel. They can be kind, and they can enforce fierce boundaries. They can be the masterpiece, and the artist holding the brush.

Here’s to the women who are multi-dimensional, and to the little girls we are raising to shatter every single box they are put in. 🥂✨

Tell me below: what is your favorite fierce “And” trait that you’re proudly owning right now? 👇🖤

Plot twists, Parisian pastries, and a whole lot of Plot twists, Parisian pastries, and a whole lot of pivoting. 🥐✨

Here’s the reality of April School Vacation week when you’re juggling freelance deadlines, content creation, and making magic for the girls. From viral bakery misses (I’ll be back for that sugar mallet!) to triumphant carnival wins (Arielle is now the proud owner of two Labubus 🧸), it was a week of high-low glam and pure survival.

We dodged parking disasters, conquered Boston with Alex, paired McDonald’s with L.A. Burdick chocolate mice, and lived to tell the tale. It’s about owning the chaos, loving your kids fiercely, and still finding the perfect croissant along the way. Grab your iced chai and swipe to see our week. 🥂

Even with all the unexpected plot twists, a part of me wishes this week could have lasted forever. Arielle, on the other hand, is more than ready to get back to her school runway. Summer vacation is on the horizon—but honestly, it can’t get here fast enough! ✨

How did you survive school vacation week? Tell me I’m not the only one already counting down the days until summer! 👇💬

The ultimate luxury for a working mama? Skipping t The ultimate luxury for a working mama? Skipping the daily lunch packing and never having to worry about sending diapers to childcare. ✨

I recently toured the gorgeous new BrightPath in Woburn, and it is a total breath of fresh air. Finding childcare that actually aligns with your family’s vibe can feel impossible, but this space is intentionally designed to foster real imagination—minus the sensory overload.

The true standout, though, is how much mental load they take completely off your plate. You can drop the morning scramble because they supply the diapers, the wipes, AND serve beautifully balanced, nutritious meals. Add in those early 6:30 AM drop-offs and a massive, multi-zone playground, and it’s basically a country club for your little ones.

Here is everything you need to know:

📍 Location: BrightPath Woburn
👶 Ages: Beautiful, handicap-accessible classrooms for 6 weeks to 7 years old
⏰ Hours: Care starts as early as 6:30 AM
🍼 The Perks: Diapers, wipes, meals, and snacks are ALL included!

Brightpath Woburn is now erolling! Drop a 🎒 in the comments if you’re ready to outsource the morning chaos, and head to the link in my bio to schedule a tour of your local BrightPath!

Lately, I’ve been opening up a lot more about what Lately, I’ve been opening up a lot more about what I actually do for a living with the people who have recently come into my life through the girls’ school and activities. And honestly? The questions I get are fascinating.

✨“How did you get into this?”
⚡️“Do you just get a bunch of free stuff and post about it?”

Even the PR teams I work with sometimes ask, “So, is it just parties every night for you guys?”

The answer is... complicated.

Sometimes, yes. I have weeks where it feels like a nonstop party—which is exactly what last week was. And then there are weeks where the calendar is clear and it’s just the standard, beautiful chaos of raising a family. So, you can imagine the sheer adrenaline required when I have an event every night stacked on top of the regular family hustle.

I want to be completely clear: while it looks glamorous and fun on the grid, it is work. Work that I fiercely love, but work nonetheless. And believe it or not—I might get some heat for saying this, but that’s fine—it is work that not everyone is cut out for.

If that sounds like a challenge to you, I say go ahead and give the content creation life a try! If you make it, I will be the first one raising a glass and cheering you on, because I am never one to wish badly on someone else’s success. And if you don’t? Well, maybe you’ll understand exactly what I’m saying here. 😉

I love this life, and I wouldn’t change a single thing. Even when I am so wildly overextended that I end up collapsing with a cold by Saturday (guilty!).

But if you’ve ever been curious, here is what one of my truly busy weeks as a content creator and mom of two actually looks like. 🎬
