I have spent the past month and a half visiting as many farms in our area as possible. Not only have we been trying all of the different apple cider donuts, I’ve also been on the hunt for unique experiences and fun things to do with Arielle. I’m starting to feel like a farm stand connoisseur. Here is the roundup of my favorite farms North of Boston, places where you should spend an afternoon at the farm.
Cider Hill Farm
Amesbury, MA
This was the find of the season as far as I’m concerned. Cider Hill Farm has the best apple cider donuts around and a fantastic farm store. You can also pick your own, grab a pumpkin or a bottle of wine made right on site. It’s also so darn Instagrammable!
Russell Orchards
Ipswich, MA
I’ve been visiting Russell Orchards every fall since I was a baby and I am not about to stop now. While more traditional in the sense of the word “farm,” they have great wines and an apple cider donut Sundae to die for.
Wilson Farm
Lexington, MA
I know there is a working farm here, but this is really more of a gourmet grocery store than a farm experience. Delicious donuts and cold brew, gorgeous designer cakes, and the shiniest berries I’ve ever seen in my life make Wilson Farm stand out in the area.
Smolak Farms
North Andover, MA
Hayrides, pick your own apples, a pumpkin patch (and tree!) and a kid’s play area with a pirate ship that is out of this world, Smolak Farm is a great place to spend an afternoon. On weekends they have live music and food stands and fun activities for the kids.
Connors Farm
Danvers, MA
Connors Farm is like the Disney World of farms. While it is slightly expensive for tickets to get into the activities and events (unlike the rest of the farms listed where everything except for products and pick your own experiences are free), it is worth it. There is a corn maze, apple cannons, go-carts, a train that takes you around the grounds, several play areas for the kids featuring life-size sheds, a fire truck and a treehouse, and lots of food options. This a farm that you could spend all day at – and we almost did!
