Gloucester Getaway: A Fabulous 3-Day Family Itinerary

May 21, 2025

Gloucester family travel

Oh, Gloucester, you salty, stylish, historic gem! If you’re dreaming of a coastal escape that’s brimming with adventure, delectable bites, and enough charm to fill a treasure chest, then pack your chicest weekender bag, darling, because we’re diving headfirst into a 3-day itinerary that will have the whole family utterly enchanted. As a mom who believes travel should always be an adventure (and a stylish one at that!), let me tell you, Gloucester delivers.

We recently whisked our little darlings away for a jaunt to this iconic New England fishing port, and it was pure magic. Think rugged coastlines, artistic vibes, and the kind of seafood that will make you want to write a sonnet. So, grab a glass of something bubbly, and let’s map out your perfect Gloucester getaway!

Atlantic Vacation Homes

Where to Hang Your (Very Chic) Hat:

First things first, my loves, you need a fabulous home base. We absolutely adored our stay with Atlantic Vacation Homes. For families, The Cape Hedge House is an absolute dream. Imagine waking up to that salty air, with enough space for the little ones to roam and for you to enjoy a quiet morning coffee (or an evening cocktail, no judgment here!). It’s the kind of place that feels like your own stylish coastal cottage, instantly making you feel like a glamorous local. For more on our stay, check out this post.

Day 1: Arrival & Authentic Italian Delights

Once you’ve arrived and sashayed through your divine accommodations at The Cape Hedge House (seriously, take a moment to soak it all in!), it’s time to kick off this adventure in true Gloucester style.

  • Settle In & Explore: Let the kids pick their rooms, unpack those adorable vacation outfits, and maybe even scope out the nearest spot for an impromptu family dance party.
  • Dinner at Tonno: For your first evening, prepare for a culinary kiss from the old country, right in the heart of Gloucester. Tonno is an absolute must. Think sophisticated, yet utterly welcoming, with Italian seafood dishes that are nothing short of divine. The ambiance is just chef’s kiss – perfect for recounting the day’s travel triumphs and dreaming of the adventures ahead. The freshness of the seafood, combined with those authentic Italian flavors? Bellissima!
Hammond Castle

Day 2: Castles, Creatures, & Candlepin Charm

Rise and shine, darlings! Day two is all about eclectic wonders and seaside fun.

  • Fuel Up at Cape Ann Coffees: Start your day like a true Gloucester insider at Cape Ann Coffees. Now, a little tip from me to you: they are closed on Sundays, so plan accordingly! Their bagel and lox is simply to die for – a perfect East Coast classic. And the kiddos? They went absolutely wild for the breakfast pastries. It’s the perfect, unpretentious spot to get your caffeine fix and a delicious bite before a day of exploring.
  • Morning Majesty at Hammond Castle: Prepare to have your breath taken away (and maybe feel like you’ve stepped onto a movie set) at Hammond Castle Museum. This place isn’t just a museum; it’s an experience! Built by the eccentric inventor John Hays Hammond Jr., it’s a genuine medieval-style castle overlooking the dramatic Atlantic. Hammond was quite the genius, darling – he had over 400 patents and is considered the father of radio control! Inside, you’ll find a fascinating collection of Roman, medieval, and Renaissance artifacts, a grand hall that has hosted many a fabulous party, and even a massive pipe organ. A little note for mamas with tinier tots: no carriages (strollers) are allowed inside, so they’ll either need to use their little legs or you’ll want to bring your favorite baby carrier. Trust me, the adventure is worth it!

  • Lunch with a View at Minglewood Harborside: After channeling your inner royalty, it’s time for some glorious seafood. Head over to Minglewood Harborside. The food is fab, darling, but the real star is the view. Snag a table out on the deck if you can – gazing out at the sparkling water while tucking into fresh-off-the-boat seafood is pure bliss.
  • Dive into Maritime Gloucester: Next up, a gem that the kids (and you!) will adore: Maritime Gloucester. It’s a wonderfully curated small museum that truly punches above its weight. But the real magic? The touch tanks! Watching your little ones get hands-on with marine biology, gently touching starfish and learning about the creatures of the deep, is just priceless. It’s educational, it’s interactive, and it’s just plain cool.
cape ann lanes
  • Brews & Bowling at Cape Ann Lanes: Ready for some good old-fashioned fun with a modern twist? Cape Ann Lanes is your destination! This isn’t just any bowling alley, my dears. They feature candlepin bowling, which is a New England classic. The balls are smaller, making it so much easier (and more fun!) for little hands. And get this – they have bumpers that magically go up and down depending on whose turn it is. Genius! But wait, there’s more. Attached to the lanes is a fantastic craft brewery and beer garden. So, while the kids are knocking down pins, you can sample some local brews. Something for everyone? Absolutely!

Day 3: Doughnuts, Discoveries & Departure Bliss

Our final day, but certainly not the least fabulous!

  • Sweet Starts at Brother’s Brew Coffee Shop: Good morning, Rockport! For your final breakfast, you simply must treat yourselves to the delights at Brother’s Brew Coffee Shop. Their doughnuts are legendary – fluffy, flavorful, and utterly irresistible. If it’s a beautiful day (and Gloucester often blesses us with those!), grab your treats to go and wander down to Bearskin Neck to enjoy them by the water. Pure New England perfection!
  • Main Street Stroll & Shopping Spree: Time to indulge in a little retail therapy, Gloucester style! Main Street is a treasure trove of unique finds. We absolutely lived to browse the vinyl at Mystery Train Records (a little rock’n’roll for the soul, you know?). Design of Mine has the cutest clothes – you might just find your new favorite vacay outfit. And The Bookstore of Gloucester? A haven for bookworms of all ages. There are also darling children’s clothing boutiques (because even the little ones need to be stylish travelers!), specialty food stores like the divine Cape Ann Olive Oil Co. (perfect for foodie souvenirs!), and don’t you dare forget Virgilio’s Bakery. It’s a Gloucester institution, a true mainstay for Italian breads, pastries, and deli delights. Just a heads-up, my loves: Virgilio’s is closed on Sundays, so plan your pilgrimage accordingly!
Family weekend Gloucester
  • Lunch at the Reimagined Capt. Vito’s: You might have heard whispers of Capt. Vito’s as a classic fish shack, but darling, it’s evolved! This spot now serves up some seriously delicious lobster rolls and seafood chowders with exciting Mexican and Guatemalan flavor twists. It’s fresh, it’s innovative, and it’s utterly scrumptious.
  • Playtime Paradise at Stage Fort Park: After all that excitement, it’s time for the little ones to burn off some energy (and for you to relax, perhaps with that book you picked up on Main Street!). Stage Fort Park is an absolute gift. There’s plenty of space to run and play, gorgeous views, and lots of benches and shade for parents to kick back and soak in the atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for some unstructured fun.
  • A Sweet Farewell at Holy Cow Ice Cream: Before you bid adieu to Gloucester, there’s one final, essential stop: Holy Cow! Ice Cream. This award-winning ice cream shop is legendary for a reason. Their flavors are wonderfully unique and outrageously delicious. From classic concoctions to inventive new tastes, there’s a scoop (or two, or three!) to make every member of the family beam. It’s the sweetest way to end your Gloucester adventure.
  • Head Home: With hearts full of salty air and minds brimming with beautiful memories, it’s time to head home, already dreaming of your next visit.

Got a Little Extra Time, Darling? Consider These Fabulous Additions:

If your schedule allows for a bit more lingering (and why wouldn’t it, Gloucester is captivating!), here are a few more gems to consider:

  • A Visit to the Cape Ann Museum: I confess, I haven’t made it here yet, but darling, people RAVE about it. It’s high on my list for our next trip, promising a deep dive into the area’s rich artistic and maritime heritage.
  • Bask on Good Harbor Beach: If sun, sand, and surf are calling your name, spend a morning (or a whole day!) at Good Harbor Beach. It’s renowned for its soft sand and picturesque views – perfect for castle-building and toe-dipping.
  • Take a Whale Watch: An absolute must-do for the truly adventurous! Seeing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat is an experience you and your family will never forget. Several excellent tours depart from Gloucester.
  • Discover the Sargent House Museum: For a dose of history and art, visit the Sargent House Museum. Learn about the fascinating Judith Sargent Murray, a pioneering 18th-century advocate for women’s education and equality. The collections also feature beautiful artwork by the renowned John Singer Sargent and his sister, Emily. Talk about an inspiring stop!
  • Check Out The Cut: This sounds like an absolute blast! The Cut is a sprawling 22,000 sq ft multi-purpose entertainment venue right in downtown Gloucester, overlooking the harbor. With two levels featuring a concert venue, a gastropub, a recording studio, rehearsal rooms, and even gaming areas, it sounds like a fantastic spot for an evening out or a different kind of family fun.

Gloucester, with its blend of rugged beauty, artistic soul, and family-friendly adventures, truly has a piece of my travel-loving heart.

For more tips on navigating this coastal wonderland with your little adventurers, check out this post on fun things to do with kids in Gloucester. And if you’re wondering how to stay chic while exploring, I’ve got you covered in this post on what to wear during your trip!

Until next time, keep exploring, stay stylish, and embrace the adventure, darlings!

What it’s Like to Have a Miscarriage

The ultimate luxury for a working mama? Skipping t The ultimate luxury for a working mama? Skipping the daily lunch packing and never having to worry about sending diapers to childcare. ✨

I recently toured the gorgeous new BrightPath in Woburn, and it is a total breath of fresh air. Finding childcare that actually aligns with your family’s vibe can feel impossible, but this space is intentionally designed to foster real imagination—minus the sensory overload.

The true standout, though, is how much mental load they take completely off your plate. You can drop the morning scramble because they supply the diapers, the wipes, AND serve beautifully balanced, nutritious meals. Add in those early 6:30 AM drop-offs and a massive, multi-zone playground, and it’s basically a country club for your little ones.

Here is everything you need to know:

📍 Location: BrightPath Woburn
👶 Ages: Beautiful, handicap-accessible classrooms for 6 weeks to 7 years old
⏰ Hours: Care starts as early as 6:30 AM
🍼 The Perks: Diapers, wipes, meals, and snacks are ALL included!

Brightpath Woburn is now erolling! Drop a 🎒 in the comments if you’re ready to outsource the morning chaos, and head to the link in my bio to schedule a tour of your local BrightPath!

Lately, I’ve been opening up a lot more about what Lately, I’ve been opening up a lot more about what I actually do for a living with the people who have recently come into my life through the girls’ school and activities. And honestly? The questions I get are fascinating.

✨“How did you get into this?”
⚡️“Do you just get a bunch of free stuff and post about it?”

Even the PR teams I work with sometimes ask, “So, is it just parties every night for you guys?”

The answer is... complicated.

Sometimes, yes. I have weeks where it feels like a nonstop party—which is exactly what last week was. And then there are weeks where the calendar is clear and it’s just the standard, beautiful chaos of raising a family. So, you can imagine the sheer adrenaline required when I have an event every night stacked on top of the regular family hustle.

I want to be completely clear: while it looks glamorous and fun on the grid, it is work. Work that I fiercely love, but work nonetheless. And believe it or not—I might get some heat for saying this, but that’s fine—it is work that not everyone is cut out for.

If that sounds like a challenge to you, I say go ahead and give the content creation life a try! If you make it, I will be the first one raising a glass and cheering you on, because I am never one to wish badly on someone else’s success. And if you don’t? Well, maybe you’ll understand exactly what I’m saying here. 😉

I love this life, and I wouldn’t change a single thing. Even when I am so wildly overextended that I end up collapsing with a cold by Saturday (guilty!).

But if you’ve ever been curious, here is what one of my truly busy weeks as a content creator and mom of two actually looks like. 🎬

April school vacation week, but make it chic. 🥂✨ April school vacation week, but make it chic. 🥂✨

Welcome to Part 2 of our favorite local “vacation” escapes!

We are balancing the beautiful chaos of kid energy with some unapologetic glamour this week. Because who says you can’t pair a stroller with a little coastal castle exploring?

Here is the itinerary for surviving (and actually enjoying) the week:

* The New England Aquarium: A Boston staple. Surviving the penguin exhibit before noon is basically an Olympic sport.
* House of Seven Gables: A dose of history with a slightly moody, coastal edge.
* Beauty and the Beast at the Citizen’s Opera House: Swapping the sneakers for something polished to take in some pure theater magic.
* The Malibu Barbie Cafe: Serving all the pink, playful sparkle, and unapologetic feminine energy for the girls.
* Hammond Castle: Stunning European stone architecture right on the water. No passport required.
* Castle Hill Crane Estate: We took the Cat’s Meow tour on Saturday and it was absolute twenties perfection.
* Avra: Sleek, chic, and strictly for the parents. You’ve earned a spectacular cocktail.

It’s high-low motherhood at its finest. No boarding pass required, just a great pair of sunglasses and a very strong espresso. ☕️🕶️

Happy Patriot’s Day! 🇺🇸✨ Most days, you’ll find m Happy Patriot’s Day! 🇺🇸✨

Most days, you’ll find me sharing our chicest travel itineraries, boutique hotel finds, and the beautifully curated chaos of packing stilettos and strollers for our next flight. And while building this travel diary is the absolute dream, I realized lately that I rarely drop a reel on the feed just for the pure, unscripted fun of it.

So today, we’re taking a detour from the polished programming. Throwing it back to 2022 in Lexington and 2023 in Concord, featuring a 3- and 4-year-old Arielle who was entirely committed to her role as a fiercely adorable Patriot soldier. History never looked so fabulous.

(A quick disclaimer before you turn the sound up: as much as it sounds like she’s passionately screaming “The bridges are coming!,” she is, in fact, warning us about the British. Context is everything, darlings. 🤺)

It’s a little raw, incredibly silly, and exactly the kind of offbeat memory that makes this whole motherhood gig the ultimate adventure. I am already plotting the exact moment I can wrangle Aurora into this very same uniform to reenact the reenactment.

Raise a glass to the history, the beautiful chaos, and the hilarious little moments in between! 🥂🗽

I was seven years old when I first saw Beauty and I was seven years old when I first saw Beauty and the Beast on stage. I had already decided I was destined to be an actress (obviously 💅), but sitting in that dark theater, watching a literal library come to life, I knew theater specifically was it. That was my spark.

Fast forward to this past week: a little bit of style, a lot of sparkle, and Broadway in Boston making absolute magic happen. Watching Arielle’s eyes light up exactly the way mine did when she is almost the same age? Utter perfection. 🥂✨

Beauty and the Beast is at the Citizen’s Opera House now through May 2.

What was the first show you ever saw that completely hooked you? Let me know below! 👇

The Barbie Cafe has officially landed at Faneuil Hall (taking over the beloved Sugar Factory space for a few months!), and it is serving pure, unadulterated 1970s disco-glam magic.

Arielle, Aurora, and I put on our Barbie best to check it out on opening day, and it did not disappoint. From striking a pose in the life-size Barbie Box to eyeing everything in the boutique,

it’s the ultimate girls’ day out. I especially loved seeing them championing women-owned businesses with Cooper Street Snacks on hand—because empowered women empower women (and we also just really love a good snack).

It’s the perfect excuse to dress up, channel your inner Holly Golightly with a pop of pink, and make some wildly fun memories with your kids.
