What to Pack for a Fabulously Sunny New England Staycation (Our Chic Spring Outfits!)

May 12, 2025

What to Pack Gloucester

Oh, my dearest style adventurers! Sometimes, a girl (and her equally chic family!) just needs a little escape, doesn’t she? Not necessarily a mad dash across continents, but a charming, restorative New England staycation to sprinkle a little magic into the everyday. And so, with visions of salty air, picturesque harbors, and perhaps a lobster roll or two dancing in our heads, we set our sights on the utterly captivating Gloucester, MA this past May.

We were simply thrilled when the wonderful folks at Discover Gloucester and the ever-so-lovely Atlantic Vacation Homes decided to collaborate with us on this little jaunt – and darlings, I have so much more to tell you about those fabulous partnerships very soon, so do stay tuned!

Now, packing for Gloucester MA in early May can often feel like a bit of a stylish gamble. Typically, the May weather in New England can be a tad unpredictable – one might expect cool sea breezes, a touch of mist, and the need for cozy layers. However, the travel fairies must have been working overtime for us, because we were blessed with the most glorious stretch of sunshine! Imagine, darlings: clear blue skies and temperatures delightfully fluttering between the high 50s and low 70s Fahrenheit. It was absolute perfection for exploring historic streets, breathing in that fresh ocean air, and, of course, debuting some rather fetching spring outfits Gloucester simply adored (or so I imagine!). Get ready for a peek into our Gloucester style diary!

New England Staycation Night 1

For our stylish jaunt up the coast and a simply divine dinner at Tonno’s on our first night, the girls were utter perfection in their matching Pixielane Glitter Tank Super Twirl Dresses in Pink Glitter Ice Cream – honestly, could they be any more adorable? Meanwhile, I opted for a wonderfully comfortable yet chic Knit Mini Ballet Dress from Target’s A New Day™ line in a lovely Coral hue. To ward off any potential evening chill (and add a dash of panache, naturally!), I topped it off with a treasured old Anthropologie jacket – a true classic! You can find a similar look here – I have had it in my cart but have yet to pull the trigger!

New England Staycation Morning 1

And oh, that first morning! There’s nothing quite like waking up to the promise of a beautiful day in a new place. I’ve recently made a rather brilliant decision, if I do say so myself, and permanently added this divine pair of pajamas from Room Service in Pink Palm to my travel repertoire. They are, without a doubt, the perfect spring and summer travel pajamas – so incredibly soft and comfy, darlings, you simply must investigate! The girls, ever the coordinated duo, were looking royally sweet in their Disney’s Sleeping Beauty pajama sets (a gift from their godparents), complete with removable tutus (because why not?). Though, I must confess, little Aurora was far too excited about the day ahead to curl up with me in bed for long!

New England Staycation Afternoon 1

That afternoon, bathed in the most glorious New England sunshine, we embarked on a mini-tour of some of Gloucester’s most iconic sights. The girls were the epitome of seaside chic in the most adorable matching sets (complete with the cutest sunglasses!) that I snagged at TJ Maxx – you can find a similar look for toddlers here and for older girls here. As for yours truly, I twirled about in a darling matching top and skirt set from St. John’s that was on a super sale (a true fashion miracle, darlings!). You can find a similarly fabulous vibe here or here. I must say, we received compliments all day long – it seems Gloucester appreciated our stylish efforts!

New England Staycation Night 2

And the fun didn’t stop when the sun went down! That night, we had an absolute blast at Cape Ann Lanes for some cosmic bowling – and darling, the girls were literally glowing! They looked too sweet for words in their Pixielane Simply Soft Short Sleeve Be Happy Dresses in the Rainbow Cupcakes print. I kept things a bit more casual but still fun in a comfy pair of jeans and the Aurora baseball jersey my sister so thoughtfully picked up for me on her last Disney World adventure. You can’t snag that exact Aurora one anymore, but I hear they still have a few in the Cinderella version here if you fancy a bit of princess power for your next casual outing!

For our final day, we embraced a wonderfully relaxed and casual vibe. The girls looked utterly charming in their comfy jeans paired with matching Minnie and Daisy tee shirts – a fabulous find from Costco (you can get a similar adorable tee for your littles here). And can you believe it, I just stumbled upon an almost matching tee for myself here which I might just have to snap up for future twinning moments! For my own casual-chic ensemble, I turned to my absolute favorite Wooden Ships sweater, the one that cheerfully declares “Beach Babe” in pink, paired with some perfectly relaxed We The Free Brette Cropped Wide-Leg Jeans from Free People. It was the ideal comfy-cool look for soaking up those last lovely Gloucester moments.

And just like that, our darling little Gloucester getaway came to a sun-kissed close! From stylish dinners to cosmic bowling and simply soaking in that charming New England air, it was the perfect reminder that adventure (and fabulous outfits!) can be found just around the corner.

A huge thank you once again to Discover Gloucester and Atlantic Vacation Homes for helping make this sweet escape so memorable. Can’t wait to share more with you! Until our next stylish sojourn, darlings, keep exploring and always, always pack something fabulous!

What it’s Like to Have a Miscarriage

@BostonBallet just delivered the ultimate lesson i @BostonBallet just delivered the ultimate lesson in contrast, and I am entirely here for it. 🥂✨

Alex and I kicked off date night trading our usual routine for the moody, electric energy of Hobgoblin, before stepping into the undeniable, old-world glamour of the Citizen’s Opera House.

If you think contemporary ballet is always intensely serious, the Fall Experience is about to beautifully prove you wrong. The program is an absolute masterclass in duality. We were hit with the unapologetic power of orchestral selections from Stravinsky’s The Firebird and the gripping, primal ritual of Vertical Road, but the absolute scene-stealer of the night was Alexander Ekman’s Cacti. It is cheeky, rhythm-driven, and gently pokes fun at the pretentious need to over-analyze everything. I think I will always remember that unique Pas de deux that ended with a stuffed cat falling from the ceiling.

Yes, you read that right.

Sometimes, you don’t need a deep, philosophical meaning—sometimes you just need brilliant percussion, incredible dancers, a cat and literal cacti on stage.

It was the perfect mix of grit, effortless glamour, and pure theatrical magic.

Don’t forget to grab your tickets to Boston Ballet’s Fall Experience before it closes September 20.

What is the most confusing or brilliant piece of modern art you’ve ever seen? Tell me I’m not the only one who just wants to enjoy the rhythm without a dissertation! 👇🥂

When I lived in New York, the places where the Twi When I lived in New York, the places where the Twin Towers once stood were just giant, gaping holes in the ground. There were makeshift memorials of flowers and photos, but I lived just down the street and avoided the area like the plague. It felt like a land of tragedy, heavy with the ghosts of lives lost far too soon.

So for years, on countless visits back to the city, I never went to the memorial. I just couldn’t.

That changed in August 2025. It was the girls’ first trip to NYC, and my first time seeing the 9/11 memorial pools. I’ll admit, I became far more emotional than I ever expected. Even all those years later, even though I was just a young teen when it happened, I felt my heart in my throat walking through the plaza.

And then we saw it. The Survivor Tree. In this vast space of mourning, it gave me so much hope. The same kind of brilliant, defiant hope my girls bring to me every single day.

It is so important that we never forget that day 25 years ago. But standing there, watching my daughters look up at the tree that refused to stop living, was a powerful reminder that it’s just as important that we keep on blooming. We have to keep living, beautifully and fiercely, for all those who can’t. 🕊️

Postcards from our final day in Newport, Rhode Isl Postcards from our final day in Newport, Rhode Island. 💌✨

We wrapped up our coastal escape with the ultimate high-low itinerary. We spent the morning wandering through the unbelievable grandeur of The Breakers. I fully encouraged Arielle and Aurora to pretend they owned the place, because why not?

Once we had our fill of Gilded Age opulence, we traded the marble halls for the classic, salty-air charm of Bannister’s Wharf. Alex and I tag-teamed the lunch rush at The Black Pearl (because finding incredible pescatarian-friendly coastal food and delicious cocktails is my absolute love language), before capping off the trip the only acceptable way: with a very necessary, very messy sugar rush at Sprinkles Ice Cream.

It was the perfect blend of architectural sparkle and sticky-fingered childhood joy. Au revoir, Newport. You were an absolute dream. 🥂

Okay, settle a debate for me: if you only had one hour left in Newport, are you spending it getting lost in the grandeur of The Breakers, or are you grabbing a table at The Black Pearl? Drop your vote below! 👇✨

If Holly Golightly took a family road trip to Rhod If Holly Golightly took a family road trip to Rhode Island, I like to think her first day would look a little something like this. 🥂✨

Newport is basically a masterclass in high-low travel, which is exactly my love language. We kicked off our first day channeling pure Gilded Age glamour at Rosecliff (highly recommend letting your girls pretend they own the place on the back lawn), before shifting gears for lunch at Pasta Beach and a wind-in-our-hair spin down the Scenic Drive.

We balanced out the opulent sparkle with the moodier, gorgeous architecture of Kingscote, did a little cobblestone strutting down Bannister’s Wharf, and wrapped the whole glorious marathon exactly where we belong: on the patio at O’Briens. They even let the kiddos fish with magnetic rods and matching “fish” in the fountain!

Because there is nothing chicer than pairing a fabulous outfit and a head full of historic architecture with a cold drink and casual pub food while Alex and I wrangle the girls.

Who says you can’t have the mansions and the casual pints, too? Not us.

Tell me your travel style below—are you team Gilded Age glamour, or team pub-patio-with-a-pint? (Or if you’re like me, you absolutely refuse to choose). 👇✨

When asked about the future, she skips the predictable and goes straight for the extraordinary: “I’m going to be a butterfly.” 🦋

Never lose that spark, sweet girl. Don’t let anyone convince you to dim your glitter, fit into a tiny box, or stay grounded when you were born to take flight. Go show preschool what you’re made of—sparkle, grit, and pure magic.

The wings already suit you. 🦋✨

They say packing for a family road trip is a marat They say packing for a family road trip is a marathon, but honestly? It’s just the perfect excuse to curate a killer high-low travel wardrobe. 🥂✨

From a private tour of the Empire State Building to chasing Arielle and Aurora through Newport mansions, this trip was all about blending Parisian nonchalance with a little NYC grit. Whether I was dusting off a vintage Armani straw hat for tea at The Plaza or living in a $30 wrinkle-proof Amazon dress 100 stories up at The Edge, the mission was simple: look fiercely put-together without sacrificing a drop of comfort. Because yes, you can absolutely museum-hop, wrangle kids, and still serve unapologetic glamour. 🖤🎀
