At the beginning of January, I got really honest about how I needed to change up my lifestyle and set some goals for myself. And while I don’t think those goals were completely unattainable, I didn’t take life into account.
Even with childcare, there are only 24 hours in a day and sometimes that just isn’t enough to fit in a full workday, keep the house picked up, run errands, go to appointments, take care of Arielle and work out. There are some days that something has to give and, unfortunately, working out is often that something.
But because I crafted my own program that means I’m in charge. So in my first check-in on my personal New Year’s goals, I am making a few observations and some changes.
One step at a Time
On January 4th I started eating healthy, working out, cutting calories and hitting the ground hard with my freelance writing business. It was too much to do all at once. What I should have done is started small with removing unhealthy choices from my diet and working on my business, then cutting calories, then working out, etc. Too much all at the same time is setting yourself up for failure.
Setting Boundaries
You can’t got full throttle all the time. So I’m instituting “business hours” for everything (with the exception of parenting, of course). Before 8 a.m. and after 6 p.m., I am off the clock so I can relax and enjoy my family.
Get Some Movement in Every Day
While there are some days I just can’t get in a traditional sweat session, I am getting in movement each and every day. I either take five minutes to do a quick yoga flow, or I have a dance party with Arielle, or we take a walk. And even that small addition to my day really helps my mental health.
Moving Forward
So now that I have a better idea of what works and what doesn’t, I’m making these adjustments and moving on. I’ll share how it’s working at the beginning of March with my next update!
How are you doing on your New Year’s Resolutions?
