How to Casually Style a Blazer

I found this Calvin Klein blazer in the dreamiest shade of pink two years ago on supersale at Lord & Taylor (RIP!). At the time I thought, “I’m not in TV news anymore. When in the world am I going to wear this?” Fast forward to last year when I launched my own freelance writing business and had to resort to meeting via Zoom with clients and brands as we were all quarantining. I wore this blazer more times than I can count. Not only is it comfortable, it’s incredibly chic and the shade doesn’t wash me out even though I’m sitting in front of a computer screen. Here are a few tips to casually style a blazer and how to dress for your next zoom meeting.

With Black Jeans

I live in my favorite black jeans from Target. I’ve worn them to everything, including this branding shoot with Jessie Wyman Photography. Because of how dark they are, they almost look like slacks. Add a pair of classic heels and you’re ready for anything. 

Over a Sweet and Sexy Camisole

I had a high school teacher who also served as a mentor to the Mock UN team and she always said the secret to her confidence was wearing a lacy camisole under her clothes. It was a surprising piece of advice to receive at an all-girls Catholic school, but I never forgot it. Now I love pairing a sweet, yet sexy camisole under a blazer. It’s professional, but can also make for a great going out look. 

With Fancy or Semi-Tailored Joggers

I don’t think that it was just coincidence that sequin joggers became popular last year. After all, sweatsuits became a bit of a uniform for most of us working from home. I love these bronze sequin joggers from Free People. While this is a bit fancy to pair with a blazer for a zoom meeting, it is a great look!

Over a Graphic Tee-Shirt

One of my all time favorite looks is a graphic or band tee-shirt, half tucked into a pencil skirt with a blazer draped over the shoulders. Depending on your office or clients, this may be an acceptable option. It’s definitely a great date night outfit.
