Ohhhh man, where do I begin? I feel like Miss Arielle Marie has turned into a teenager since my last update. I’ve been sharing updates on her new skills every few months (check out “Life with a 20-Month-Old,” “Life with an 18-Month-Old,” “Life with a One-Year-Old” and “Life with a 16-Month-Old”) and it’s just so mind-blowing how she is growing up so fast. Here are just a few magical developments that we’re enjoying as we learn to navigate life with a 2-year-old.
Her Favorite Word is “No” …
… And she says it allllllll the time. It’s actually kind of funny because our pediatrician says that she is very advanced with her verbal skills. But her favorite thing to say is probably the easiest and most recognizable word in the English language. However, she somehow doesn’t understand what the word means when I tell her “no.” How very convenient for her.
She is now in her Toddler Bed …
… And this was one of the hardest adjustments of all. She had slept in our room for more than a year because we wanted to keep an eye on her with her hip brace. So when we moved her into her own room we expected a big tantrum. But she took it better than we did!
When she climbed out of her crib while wearing her brace, we knew it was time to transfer her to her toddler bed. We thought history would repeat itself and she would be fine. But instead, she viewed the change as a punishment and it has taken a few weeks for her to get used to the transition. I think we’re finally through the thick of it, but I don’t want to jinx anything!
She’s been Attending a Sports Camp and Music Lessons …
…. And she is crushing it! The first few sessions for both I was wondering if we had made a mistake. She has so much energy and is used to doing her own thing so she wasn’t attuned to listening to people other than Alex or me (or my mom for that matter!). But she is doing really well now with playing with the other kids and following the coach’s and instructor’s directions. I am so proud!
She is still the sweetest child in the world …
… Even when she does something wrong, when she apologizes it is so sincere. Anytime I hear, “I’m sowy, Mama,” my heart just aches. But she is just as sweet when she isn’t in trouble. She loves to show her affection in so many ways – blowing kisses, hugging, and now she loves to touch noses as Alex has taught her that new greeting. I can’t even handle it.
It has been an amazing 2 years and I can’t even imagine what to expect over the next few months!
