Last year we made the trip down to Rhode Island to visit Wicked Tulips as a spring adventure. We loved this beautiful day trip as we also got to stop in Wickford, RI, a lovely little seaside village. But this year for our tulip picking we stayed closer to home, going just about 30 minutes away to Tip Top Tulips in Ipswich, MA.
Because it’s so close, we actually visited twice and it was amazing the difference a week can make. The first trip was made on their first weekend open and they only had two or three full rows in bloom. We were also the only ones on the field (great for pictures) but we got to watch the baby goat yoga happening at the far end of the farm which Arielle loved.
The next weekend was much busier and the field was pretty much in full bloom. If you can visit twice, I’d suggest it because it can be really enlightening to see the change that happens in such a short time.
If you’re planning a visit to Tip Top Tulips
Tickets are a timed entry but once you are in the field you’re allowed to stay in there for as long as you’d like. Children 3 and under are free while those between 4 and 17 are $5, and adult ticket prices vary between $10 and $12 depending on the day you go. Tickets do not include tulips but you can buy the ones you do pick for $1 a bloom.
Tip Top Tulips does provide baskets which make for beautiful picture opportunities. When you check out, you are allowed to keep the bulbs if they are attached to the flowers (and you can plant them at home in your own garden) and they wrap the bouquet in some beautiful tissue paper which creates a great gift for someone you love – Happy Mother’s Day!
As I mentioned, they have baby goat yoga classes and also painting classes and pony walk experiences available. There is really something for everyone at Tip Top Tulips. I feel like this year Arielle was a little young for the yoga but I’m hoping that she’s ready next year because I know she would flip out about the cute baby goats. To be honest, I would too!
