I haven’t taken a real vacation in almost two years. Two years! Since part of this blog is devoted to travel, I should be chastising myself. But between a tough pregnancy in 2018/2019, having Arielle, figuring out the WFH deal, and then Coronavirus, I have some pretty good excuses. As the vaccine rolls out and we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I am anxious to get back on the road. Even if we only take a weekend getaway somewhere in New England, it will be a welcome change in scenery. And since one of my goals for March is to make some plans, I’ve been dreaming up some future trips. So I’m sharing my favorite travel tip with you. I’m revealing the first thing that I do when planning my trips and why you should do this too!
I should include a disclaimer here: there are actually two steps to the first thing I do when planning my trips.
Step 1:
The fun part! Figure out where you want to go!
Step 2:
Find out what is going on at your dream destination during the time you are planning to go.
The reason why I research what’s going on is for a few reasons. First off, if there is a festival or large event, it could add some excitement to your vacation plans. I was in Salzburg in 2011 during their music festival and it was so much fun seeing different bands playing throughout the city.
But large events can also mean large crowds. And while that used to bring up issues of longer lines at tourist attractions and landmarks, now it may bring to mind Covid-19 concerns. Whether that will be an issue in the future is undetermined, I just know that I’m not sure if I would choose to travel during a busy season right now.
Another reason to check out if your destination has a large event going on is that it may mean a bump in hotel room pricing. While a room may cost $200 a night the week before an event, that may double the next week.
That’s the first thing I do when I plan my trips, my top travel tip. Make sure you sign up for our emails below to get more travel tips like this!
