New England in winter: visions of cozy fireplaces, steaming mugs of cocoa, and maybe a rogue snowball fight or two. But beyond the charming clichés, this region explodes with vibrant life and unique experiences even when the mercury dips. So, ditch the “stay-indoors” blues and explore this winter wonderland through three delightful destinations: Salem, Portsmouth, and Portland. Here is where to travel in New England this Winter.
Salem, MA
Witchcraft & Beyond
Salem isn’t just about pointy hats and broomsticks. While the Salem Witch Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into history, wander beyond the cobbled streets for a taste of winter magic. Hike the snowy trails of the Salem Willows Park for breathtaking ocean views, or sip a locally brewed coffee at the cozy Gulu Gulu Cafe.
If you are looking for something delicious to do, visit the city during Salem’s So Sweet Chocolate and Ice Sculpture Festival. Now in its 22nd year, this decadent event is taking place February 9 through 11, 2024. As you stroll past elaborate and elegant ice sculptures, you’ll find sweet treats and deals at many of the city’s local shops and eateries.
