The other day I was bouncing around Facebook when I saw someone ask about the best way to get around Paris.
“Should I use the metro or are cabs better?” they asked.
After a bunch of comments cementing the metro as the transportation of choice, I saw one person say, “Walk! You’ll see more of the city.”
Immediately I thought back to our Parisian adventure. I was wearing my Fitbit during the trip and over the 7 days we spent in Paris and the 3 we spent in Amsterdam Alex and I walked 125 miles. Yes, miles. Yes, even in heels.
By the end of our vacation, our feet were sore and I think I may have walked off the daily croissants, baguettes, and bottles of champagne. But it was so worth it because we did get to see so much more of the city.
I got to try Berthillon’s ice cream and see a fire dancer in front of Notre Dame de Paris. We found ourselves at the Jardin des Tuileries and enjoying a delicious eclair at Angelina’s. We even walked up to Sacré-Cœur to wander around Monmartre.
So the next time you take a vacation, instead of hitting the subway or hailing a cab, give walking a try. You’ll love all the places you end up!
