There are few better things than jumping on the Hy-Line and jetting over to Nantucket in the summertime. After all, this New England destination has it all – beautiful beaches, amazing shopping opportunities, and excellent seafood. But even as the weather cools and the kids go back to school this fall, Nantucket is still a great place to visit.
Read on to find out why you should visit Nantucket now.
Tourist Season is Over
On a gorgeous summer day some might find it hard to walk down the sidewalk it can seem so packed with tourists. It’s the same with the beaches and popular restaurants. If you haven’t booked your hotel or cabin rental at least a few months in advance, don’t even try. But that all changes right after Labor Day. Suddenly the island is quieter, less hectic. Suddenly there are hotel rooms available, and you won’t have trouble getting a table at your favorite bistro. Since the weather is still nice, you might be able to spend some time on the beach without fighting for a spot, or take a boat ride without dealing with harbor congestion.
There is still Plenty to Do
Speaking of restaurants, the island usually holds two Restaurant Weeks with one of them taking place in the fall. The dates for the upcoming events are still to be determined, so keep checking here for updates. This year the Nantucket Cranberry Festival and the Nantucket Island Fair have decided to merge together to create one large family-friendly celebration. The Nantucket Harvest Fair will take place October 1st and 2nd and looks like it’s going to be lots of fun!
See Nantucket and Save Money
Even with the lovely weather and lots going on, it’s less expensive to visit Nantucket in the fall. Starting after Labor Day, parking for the Hy-Line is cheaper (with the exception of the Columbus Day Weekend). You’ll also find hotel rooms and cabin rentals to be much less expensive. My advice? Check out The White Elephant or the Jared Coffin House if you’re looking to spend the night. They are both Nantucket mainstays, full of charm and elegance.
