“Do you want to build a snowman?” has become an anthem in our house, like so many homes with littles and a Disney+ subscription. While snow has been scarce this winter so far, we did have a pretty good storm a week or so ago that gave us just enough to make a small snow friend for Arielle. She absolutely loved playing in the snow as we put it together. But there are so many things that you can do when the weather outside gets frightful! Here are some fun snow day activities.
Make a Snowman
This is a winner for us. Arielle cannot wait to make another snowman even though all she really did was tell me to get to work and then throw snowballs at me. We both were laughing hysterically by the time we were able to adorn our snowfriend with a hat, candy cane nose and Hershey Kiss eyes and buttons!
Go Sledding
When we took Arielle sledding up at my uncle’s Mt. Monadnock home she went nuts the first time she flew down the small hill into his backyard. “Again! Again! Again!” was all she said for the rest of the afternoon.
Make a Movie Theater out of your Living Room
This was probably my favorite thing to do on a snow day growing up (I hate the cold!). We would curl up on the couch, close all the curtains, make some popcorn and hot chocolate and have a movie marathon.
Go Ice Skating
I cannot wait to see Arielle on skates, hopefully this year. I am not very good at ice skating but when I get the chance I love to lace up. Alex plays hockey so the ice is like his second home. I’m thinking he’ll be leading us both along on the rink at Lynnfield MarketStreet.
Snow Painting
This is a new activity for me but I saw it on Instagram and I think Arielle will really enjoy it. I found this article on how to paint snow inside. But I’d love to load up some squeeze bottles with water and food coloring and head outside to paint our front yard. The neighbors will love it!
Read a Book
As I’ve gotten older and I am no longer required to read for homework I have come to really enjoy reading. I don’t get to do much of it now but what I wouldn’t do to be able to snuggle in with a good book as the snow falls softly outside the window.
What do you like to do on snow days? Anything fun that I missed? And don’t forget to dress warm when you’re out there!
