I am a huge fan of a dramatic fall cape. I’m an even bigger fan of a bargain. A few years ago I found this Valentino camel hair cape at a vintage store for under $200. While it was still an investment for me, I knew that I could not pass it up. Every time I wear it, I get so many compliments! While I can’t help you find your own Valentino cape for a fraction of the original price tag, I can show you how to style a dramatic fall cape.
Running Errands
Whether you’re dropping the kids off at school, running to the corner store, or if you’re heading to the airport to catch a flight, a cape is the perfect fall look. I’ll throw on some leggings or black yoga pants, riding boots and a cozy sweater beneath my cape. Athleisure never looked so good.
For Holiday Shopping
I love wearing a cape when I go shopping because you can hug it into you to preserve the heat, or keep the sides open to let in air. You can get overheated in a store and with all the bags you’re carrying, the last thing you want to do is add to your load. Wearing a cape can keep you cooler than a coat so the only thing in your arms are plenty of presents for all your friends and family. Pair it with jeans, a long-sleeved shirt, and a pair of good walking boots so you can get in your steps throughout the mall.
For Heading to a Party
A great cape is the perfect complement to any outfit, especially during the fall and holiday seasons. Take a look below at some of my picks for you to shop!
The trick with a cape is to pair the material of the cape with the dress. With my camel hair cape I’d never wear a long formal dress, but a sweater dress, pencil skirt and top or even a sparkly mini dress would look awesome. For a long dress, a fur or velvet cape would be more appropriate.
