It’s totally true that motherhood only gets better. Though I loved my first Mother’s Day (despite being in the middle of quarantine), this year was even more fun and I credit that to Arielle being almost 2 and more mobile. She’s become my little buddy and in some ways, like my shadow in that she always is by my side.
So I was really excited to celebrate Mother’s Day this year. We woke up around 7:30 to hear our little one singing on the monitor. I love that I start each day with a hug and a kiss from two of my favorite people – Alex and Arielle. They went out to grab a coffee while I showered and got ready. When they returned, they didn’t just bring me a chai latte, but also a huge bouquet of tulips! One of my favorite moments of the day is when Arielle ran across the house to me with the flowers clutched in her little hands.
I spent some time with my mom before we left for breakfast with my in-laws, then after our meal, we took a little drive as it was such a beautiful day. When we arrived home, Arielle went down for a nap while my mom and I enjoyed a few episodes of Rick Steves’ Europe. Around 3, Alex and I started prepping an early dinner and then my sister and brother-in-law come over a little after 4, right as Arielle woke up from her nap.
We noshed on lobster, burgers, pasta salad, vegetable kabobs, and fries outside in the yard as it was so pleasant, then as the weather got cooler we headed inside for dessert. I just love a good eclair.
Everyone was so generous with their gifts this year! Alex and Arielle have a diamond huggie earring with a hanging “A” charm on its way from Jennifer Zeuner Jewelry for me and I cannot wait for it to arrive! My mom gave me a spirit jersey from Disney as well as a framed photo of Alex for my bedside table. And Anna and Dan gave me a gold Eiffel Tower pendant and shimmering body oil. They also gave me a bracelet with Elsa from Frozen on it to go with my sister’s Anna bracelet and Arielle’s Olaf bracelet.
After they went home, we watched Thor: The Dark World as we’re working our way through the Marvel movies in chronological order. We then put Arielle to bed and checked out the latest episode of SNL with Elon Musk, which I admittedly fell asleep during.
I went to bed feeling exhausted but so happy that my second Mother’s day was so wonderful.
Hope your Mother’s Day was just as enjoyable!
