A few weeks ago I shared the shows I love watching when I have a case of wanderlust and one of them is Emily in Paris. I often find the controversy surrounding this Netflix original to be funny. There are plenty of shows that still feature stereotypes and are filled with unlikely scenarios that are just too good to be true, and I don’t hear many complaining about them.
But then again, I am biased.
When I went to Paris in 2016 it was a dream come true and I swore I’d be back as soon as possible. Fast forward 6 1/2 years, one child and a child-on-the-way later and I have yet to make good on my word.
I know it may be a while before I can get back to one of my favorite destinations, so for now I’m living through Emily’s adventures which is the main reason I watch this guilty pleasure. But here are three other reasons for why I enjoy watching Emily in Paris.
The Scenery
Above I am standing outside of Sacre Cœur, one of the most gorgeous spots in Paris. It also has one of the best views of the city below. I remember seeing Emily standing in almost the exact spot at one point and it just brought back a flood of memories from my trip. Every time I recognize one of the locations in the show, I get that familiar feeling and it makes me so happy.
The Fashion
Disclaimer first – 99 times out of 100 I am not a fan of Emily’s outfits. Every once and a while she pops up in something fantastic, but most of the time she is le cringe. But everytime I watch an episode I find myself rushing to Worn on TV to find out something Camille, Sylvie or sometimes Mindy is wearing to see if I can either afford it or find a comparable dupe.
The Fluff
There are definitely some real issues discussed in the show (which I will not reveal as to not spoil the show for anyone who may be interested) but for the most part, the show is full of fluff. It allows me to leave behind my responsibilities for 30 minutes and live a simpler, more “Instagram-worthy” life. In other words, it’s entertaining and what’s wrong with being entertained?
